Spartan Stadium is home to the San Jose State football team and the men's
and women's soccer teams. The football team has played its home games
in the stadium since 1933. The Spartans won the first football game played
in the stadium, 44-6, over San Francisco State on October 7. Since then,
the Spartans have played 307 games over 63 seasons in this grass-field
facility. The team's 100th win in Spartan Stadium came on October 21,
1968, as San Jose State defeated New Mexico, 52-14. SJSU's home field
record is 190-100-17 entering the 2001 season.
Spartan Stadium currently seats 30,456 for football and
soccer. Every seat puts the spectator either close or right on top of
the action. Two stadium expansions and renovations in the 1980's increased
the seating capacity from 18,000 to over 30,000.
The multi-purpose facility is the site of the school's
annual commencement ceremonies. Concerts, professional and collegiate
soccer, religious convocations, band competitions and high school football
games take place at Spartan Stadium. The 1999 Women's World Cup and the
1999 NCAA Women's College Cup attracted record-setting crowds.
