Background: An outstanding musician who's recorded with most of the major artists in rock 'n' roll, Leon Russell (b. April 2, 1941, Lawton, Oklahoma) was once nicknamed the "Master Of Space And Time"--and on the basis of his resume alone, it wouldn't be wise to quibble. Russell worked with Jerry Lee Lewis in the '50s; moved to L.A. and played on most of Phil Spector's classic sessions in the early '60s; performed on the Byrds' 1965 hit "Mr. Tambourine Man,"; co-wrote and arranged several top 5 hits for Gary Lewis & The Playboys; regularly appeared on the hit '60s TV show Shindig!; and later played individual sessions with Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Delaney & Bonnie, and many more. He became internationally known both for organizing Joe Cocker's famous Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour of 1970 and his memorable performance at George Harrison's 1971 Concert For Bangla Desh at Madison Square Garden. And in the course of all this, he managed to make his own records, too.
