About Patty Loveless

Genere: Country
Latest Album: On Your Way Home
Background: Patty Loveless is a distant cousin of Loretta Lynn, and though Loveless's music is more modern than her relative's, it still rings with the echoes of the same Kentucky hills. Neither flashy nor egotistic, Loveless relies on the emotional impact of her singing--which is considerable. Born Patricia Ramey on January 4, 1957, in Pikeville, Kentucky, young Patty began working with Grand Ole Opry favorites the Wilburn Brothers as a teenager. She married drummer Terry Lovelace (from whom she takes her stage name) and left Nashville, mostly playing rock covers in North Carolina clubs for a dozen years. When she divorced Lovelace and returned to Nashville, she eventually signed with MCA Records and released her first album in 1987. Success came slowly for Loveless, who improved measurably with nearly every album. She had her first number one, "Timber, I'm Falling In Love," in 1989, by which time she had already joined the Grand Ole Opry and remarried, this time to producer Emory Gordy Jr. Loveless continued having hits, occasionally big ones like 1990's "Chains," but in 1992 she had surgery on her vocal cords. She also changed record labels, releasing her first album for Epic, Only What I Feel in 1993.
